Trapattoni names big squad for Australia friendly
Following a one day delay because of flight problems, Giovanni Trapattoni named his squad for August’s friendly with Australia at Thomond Park. Coming right at the start of the English league campaign the squad is likely to yet face changes and is the likely reason that Trap has named a squad of 24 with 3 players on standby.
Alex Bruce, Damien Delaney and the injury plagued Steven Reid are all on standby for the friendly on Wednesday, 12th August.
Speaking at his squad announcement, the Republic of Ireland manager said, “It will be important to win and produce a great performance in this famous stadium. Hopefully, the stadium will be full of fans. This will not be an easy game against Australia but I am confident. It is important that can get the players together so we see their condition ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Cyrpus game in September.”
“I hope we can get a good result. It helps for the future and it helps the players believe that qualification for the World Cup is possible”, he added.
