Waterford confirm friendly with Keane’s Ipswich
Waterford United are the latest League of Ireland club to confirm a summer friendly with Ipswich Town – now managed by former Republic of Ireland international Roy Keane.
Currently fourth in the League of Ireland’s First Division, Waterford are realistically chasing promotion back into the top flight of Irish football. A money-spinner against the Tractor Boys in July should help raise mid-season funds too.
Speaking at the announcement Waterford United goalkeeper and club captain Michael Devine said, “This is great news, great for the club, and great for the players. We’re delighted to get a chance to test ourselves against such strong opposition, and to see where we are as a team, all of our lads will be really up for this one!”
Sam White, of the Waterford United Board, said “As a gesture to our loyal fans who’ve steadfastly supported us so far this season we’re keeping the ticket prices at the normal league rate. Hopefully too this will encourage all the football fans in the South East out to the game, and we can fill the RSC with noise and colour on the night. This is a huge game for the club, and the city, and it would be great to have a full house for the occasion.”
The game takes place at the Waterford Regional Sports Centre (RSC) on Friday, 17th July with an 8pm kick off. Tickets are priced at €15 and go on sale next week with the club saying a limited number of childrens and concession tickets available.
