Reading FC missed out on promotion back to the Premier League of English football last night – losing the second leg of their play-off semi-final against Owen Coyle’s Burnley.

There are at least seven Irish players on Reading’s books at the moment – all signed by departing manager Steve Coppell.

Although Dave Mooney and Alan Bennett were shipped out on loan last season, Kevin Doyle, Shane Long, Stephen Hunt, Noel Hunt and Jay Tabb were all involved in the first team and it remains to be seen if at least a couple of those don’t now look to jump back into England’s top flight by other routes.
