Irish players battling to stay in Premier League
Irish Footballers did their bit at the weekend to keep their sides in the top flight of English football.
Stoke City’s Liam Lawrence scored a wonder goal, which eventually proved to be the winner as they won 2 -1 away to Hull City. The win assures Stoke of Premier League football next season. The Stoke midfield also featured Glenn Whelan and Rory Delap. Defender Stephen Kelly made just his sixth appearance of the season for Stoke as an injury time substitute following his loan move to Birmingham City.
Kevin Kilbane lined out for Hull, who are now just three points ahead of the bottom three clubs and face the prospect of a nervous end to the season.
West Bromwich Albion meanwhile have breathed some life into what looked a lost cause as they won 3-1 at home to Wigan on Saturday. The win leaves them just three points behind fourth from bottom Hull City.
Goalkeeper Dean Kiely made his first league start of the season for West Brom and performed well as he filled in for the injured Scott Carson.
