Republic of Ireland international defender John O’Shea scored his first goal in this season’s Champions League as he hit the only goal at Old Trafford tonight – giving Manchester United a 1-0 semi-final 1st leg win over Arsenal.

O’Shea also contributed in a defence which kept a clean-sheet and kept United on track to defend their Champions League crown.

O’Shea fired home the only goal scored in this year’s semi-finals to date after 17 minutes – having almost set up Carlos Tevez for the opening goal just seconds earlier. O’Shea popped up in the penalty area from the resulting corner to force the ball home after Michael Carrick had fired the ball across goal.

The return leg takes place in London next Tuesday.
