Wolves – managed by former Irish international manager and captain Mick McCarthy – are now just one win away from promotion to the top flight of English football. Wolves have a large Irish contingent in their squad and fielded three Irish players today. Stephen Ward joined the action as a second half substitute while Kevin Foley played the whole game.

Senior Republic of Ireland international Andy Keogh though was the star, hitting the net twice as Wolves triumphed 3-2 away to Derby County. Keogh struck after seven minutes to open the scoring and then again three minutes from the end to snatch the winner.

Fellow senior international Noel Hunt also opened the scoring in the Championship for Reading and their squad which seems to feature most of Ireland’s strikers. Hunt opened the scoring but Reading had to settle for a 2-2 draw away to Blackpool.  Reading also included Stephen Hunt, Shane Long and Jay Tabb although Kevin Doyle was not involved in the matchday squad. Sunderland loanee Roy O’Donovan featured for Blackpool.
