Given heroics fail to save City

Despite Stephen Ireland giving Manchester City the lead after less than forty seconds of play, the English side slipped to a 3-1 defeat away to Hamburg in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup.
City will have their work cut out for them in the return leg next week but could have been facing an insurmountable task had it not been for a fantastic performance from goalkeeper Shay Given who kept the German side’s score down to three.
The City defence also included Richard Dunne as all three Irish internationals played the whole game for the Sky Blues.
