John O’Shea and Darron Gibson represent the best hope any Irish international has of claiming a Champions League medal this year. However, the Man Utd duo’s hopes faded somewhat on Tuesday evening as the Red Devils stumbled to a 2-2 home draw with Porto in the quarter-finals of UEFA’s top competition.

Gibson was not involved at all while O’Shea played the whole game in what manager Alex Ferguson described as a “frail defence”.
