While much of Sunday’s focus was on the English Premier League title race, one Irish under-age international claimed a medal and some respite from one of the toughest seasons imaginable.

Capped at under-17 and under-21 level, Keith Keane was part of the Luton Town side which lifted the Football League trophy at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, beating Scunthorpe United 3-2 after a dramatic game which required extra-time. Keane provided the crucial pass to setup Claude Gnakpa for the decisive goal in extra-time. Luton’s season has been plagued by a deduction of thirty points which will almost definitely see them relegated from the English league in the coming week.

Goalkeeper Joe Murphy and Cliff Byrne were part of the losing Scunthorpe side.

In top flight action, John O’Shea played the whole game as Man Utd defeated Aston Villa 3-2 with Darron Gibson spending the whole game on the bench. Meanwhile, Mark Kennedy and Stephen McPhail were both in action for Cardiff City as they drew 2-2 with Swansea City in England’s Championship.
