Ireland have risen to 26th in FIFA’s world football rankings. An impressive run under manager Giovanni Trapattoni has seen Ireland beaten just once in eight games.

That defeat came against Poland in Dublin last November. The Republic of Ireland bounced back in February with a 2-1 win over Georgia as World Cup qualifying resumed and the period at the end of March and start of April will see Trapattoni’s side again put to the test as they face first placed Italy and third placed Bulgaria as qualifying pressure intensifies.

During his managerial reign, Giovanni Trapattoni has seen his side climb from 42nd to now 26th in the FIFA list.
